Prague, July 7 (CTK) - Nearly three-fourths of Czechs agree that gays and lesbians should be allowed to conclude registered partnerships, according to the CVVM poll released to CTK Tuesday. The law on partnership of same-sex couples took effect three years ago in the Czech Republic and 780 gay and lesbian couples have entered registered partnership since then in the country.
The CVVM poll showed that almost half of Czechs believe that homosexuals should be also allowed to conclude marriage.
On the other hand, nearly two-thirds of the citizens would not allow same-sex couples to adopt children.
However, more than half of the citizens said they do not consider the society tolerant in relation to homosexuals and that a person would have problems in dealing with others if s/he openly said s/he was homosexual.
More than one-third of Czechs consider the society tolerant and they believe coming out would be no big problem for a person living in the Czech Republic.
The poll's results are more or less the same as they were in the previous poll in 2008.
In the long term, less people are against homosexual marriage and adoption of children.
Mainly elderly people are against registered partnerships and child adoptions by same-sex couples.
